Roots to Rise
Roots to Rise is a structured, mentorship-based after-school program for youth ages 13–18. The program strengthens academic engagement, builds confidence, and supports overall well-being in a safe, inclusive environment grounded in belonging, respect, encouragement, and support.
Roots to Rise is designed to help youth stay on track for high school graduation while building the skills, identity, and resilience needed for post-secondary education, training, and future employment.
Program Pillars
📘 Academic Support & Future Readiness
Participants receive one-on-one and small-group tutoring focused on homework and assignment completion, skill-building, organization, study habits, and goal setting. We help youth strengthen routines, improve engagement, and build confidence in their ability to succeed at school.
🤝 Mentorship & Personal Development
Through consistent mentorship, guided check-ins, and life-skills development, youth build self-awareness, accountability, motivation, and long-term planning skills. Our staff provide steady, relationship-based support to help youth navigate challenges and stay committed to their goals. At the same time, participants build positive peer relationships, strengthen communication skills, and experience a true sense of belonging within the club. Roots to Rise fosters a supportive social environment where youth connect, collaborate, and grow together — reinforcing that they are valued members of both the program and the broader BGC community.
🌿 Cultural Exploration & Land-Based Learning
Roots to Rise integrates Indigenous-led cultural programming and land-based learning opportunities. Youth engage in activities that strengthen identity, community connection, traditional knowledge, and a sense of belonging — supporting both personal growth and cultural pride.
